Rosewald
Farm, home of Farmsteads of New England day and residential programs.
Nestled
amidst the foothills of New Hampshire's White Mountains, Rosewald
Farm is situated on 37 acres of fields and forest and borders the Fox
State Forest while being only one mile from downtown Hillsborough. It
is a 30-minute drive to the state capital of Concord and a 45-minute
drive to the Manchester airport.
The
original farmhouse was built in the 1700's with the main portion of
the house being added in the mid 1800's and a later addition in the
early 1900's. The 13-room farmhouse is used for both day and
residential services. Three of the first floor rooms (originally the
dining room, den, and parlor) are now in use as bedrooms for three of
our residential farmers.
The
main kitchen is busy throughout the day; as it is used not only by
those who live in the house, but also to prepare a substantial lunch
for everyone who participates in our day services. When the gardens
are being harvested, it sees additional use for canning and freezing
our produce for winter. |

We
have renovated a large, seasonal porch into a sun-filled dining
room, and the living room is used throughout the day as a comfortable
place to take a break or to make a puzzle.
Additionally,
the main house has a smaller second kitchen, a staff room, and five
upstairs bedrooms which can be used by staff, interns, or parents who
are visiting.
The former nine-bay garage attached to the barn has been transformed.
The new office faces the driveway and greets visitors with its
expanse of welcoming windows. Two newly-completed residential units,
each of which consists of a bedroom/living room combination and a
private handicap-accessible bathroom, provide comfortable quarters
for two additional farmers. A mentor's office complete with laundry
room is located between the two residences, so overnight supervision
can be provided in that building.
The large, spectacularly built, post and beam barn is home to our
farm animals. The carriage house now provides us with a bright,
well-equipped craft room and exercise facilities as well as housing
the caretaker's workshop and farm equipment.
A walk around the property reveals a greenhouse, caretakers
cottage, several other outbuildings, and a gazebo that complement the
gardens, orchards and pastures of Rosewald Farm. The two new units, “WoodsEdge Apartments,” complete the setting which is both idyllic and peaceful.
